Introducing: The Ressence Type 2
Last year around this time, Ressence unveiled the Type 2 e-Crown Concept, a concept fake watch prices that originally introduced the world to the idea of the “e-Crown,” an electronic device fitted inside the mechanical fake watch prices that would permit the fake watch prices to essentially reset itself to the correct time after the power reserve has run down (in addition to other things). I was pretty excited when it was first announced and got even more excited after seeing a prototype during SIHH 2018. I wasn’t the one and only one, either: My colleague Jon named the concept fake watch prices his most exciting independent fake watch prices of 2018 only a couple months later. At that point though, the fake watch prices wasn’t yet ready for full creation and still needed a few tweaks to get ready for easy street. We were advised we’d have to stand by a piece before seeing the Type 2 available for collectors. Fortunately that stand by is presently over.
The creation version of the Type 2 is very like the concept version we saw a year ago. I’m not going to rehash all the low down details here, however in the event that you need to learn more about how the fake watch prices functions and why it was created I recommend you check out our video interview with Ressence founder Benoît Mintiens and technology legend Tony Fadell (just as some of the technical outlines below). The essentials are very much the same though: you have a curved 45mm case that’s 12mm thick and made of anthracite PVD titanium, and the dial design is quintessential Ressence with the nested orbital circles. One thing you will notice are some apertures in the dial and a set of shutters that open and close inside the mode marker – these permit light to go through to charge the photovoltaic cells that power the e-Crown. There is a companion application for your smartphone that lets you do things like set the fake watch prices to extra timezones and screen its power.
I am no less excited to see this fake watch prices in the metal next week than I was to see its predecessor a year ago. What we got 12 months prior was a true prototype, with all the typical hiccups and opportunities for improvement that you’d expect. Ressence made no second thoughts about this and knew that they needed to refine things before making the Type 2 a real item. However, the ideas were by and large present and the evidences of concept too – the Type 2 e-Crown Concept was a seriously cool piece of modern horology and I expect the last creation version of the Type 2 to take these ideas and present them in a streamlined, easy-to-use package that looks every piece however advanced as it seems to be under the hood. Stay tuned for more thoughts on this, I’m sure I’ll have no shortage of them at this point next week.
